Update on Last Week's Candidate Forum on Water
We had a good turnout for our Sept 17 Candidate Forum, with around 100 people from Hays and Comal Counties, in House District 73, showing up to hear one candidate, Dr. Merrie Fox, state her positions and answer questions. (The other candidate, incumbent Carrie Isaac, could not overcome scheduling conflicts, despite our repeated offers to reschedule.) With many water experts and advocates in the audience, the evening became something of a Town Hall on the water issues we face. It was a great opportunity for Hays and Comal residents to meet each other and get acquainted. Hopefully this will give rise to more collaboration within our District so that we can all be more effective at protecting our water.

Candidate Forum on Water — Thursday, Sept 17, Wimberley Community Center
Join us Thursday, September 17, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Wimberley Community Center, 14068 RR 12, Wimberley, TX 78676, for a Candidate Forum on Water for Texas House District 73. The next legislative session has been declared the "water session," so hearing from candidates on this issue is particularly timely.
Host organizations will introduce themselves and the actions they are taking to protect our water resources. This will be followed by a half hour of questions prepared by the hosts and a half hour of questions from the audience.
This will be a strictly non-partisan event to inform voters and residents concerning the water issues we face. The participating candidate will be able to explain her positions and plans on water policy, however, no campaigning will be part of this event.
Note: On September 14, incumbent Rep. Carrie Isaac declined our invitation. We offered repeatedly to change the date but received no response from her office to our offers.

Trinity Edwards Springs Protection Alliance (TESPA)

The Trinity Edwards Springs Protection Association, DBA Trinity Edwards Science and Policy Alliance (TESPA), protects the springs by protecting our aquifers so they remain healthy for future generations. We do this by litigating and employing other legal strategies when necessary and by collaborating with other nonprofits and academic and government organizations to produce smart, effective water policy—at the local, regional and state level.
We were part of the effort that stopped Electro Purification, LLC from pumping out the Hays City part of the aquifers. We got the Kinder Morgan pipeline re-routed instead of going UNDER the Blanco. We have a complaint pending at the PUC asking them to order Aqua Tx to stop over-pumping their permits.

Save Texas Streams was founded in 1979, making us one of the oldest grassroots environmental organizations in the state. We envision a future in which our state’s streams, aquifers, and watersheds are healthy and pristine, nurtured by communities that protect our water quality and our water supply with science and passion. We were founded in Austin as Save Barton Creek Association, but we have expanded our mission area over the years and we now work across the Hill Country and Central Texas. We're currently assisting local landowners concerned about TCEQ wastewater permits in Bell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties. Our top advocacy priority since 2021 has been the Pristine Streams Proposal, which would discontinue new wastewater discharge permits on 21 rivers and creeks in the Hill Country, including the Upper Guadalupe River, Johnson Creek, and the Blanco River. We are currently working with legislators to re-file the Pristine Streams Bill in the 2027 Legislative Session. You can learn more by visiting our website at savetexasstreams.org/pristine-streams

Fischer Neighbors Potluck — Monday, Sept 21, Fischer Store School
Join us for the next Fischer Neighbors potluck on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 6:00 pm at the historic Fischer Store School, 12400 Farm to Market 32, Fischer, TX 78623.
This potluck is not a fundraiser, though we will announce fundraising plans! This is a chance to touch base, be in community, share with neighbors, and talk WATER.
After September, the Fischer Neighbors potlucks will take place on the 2nd Monday of every month.

County Commissioners Deny Cancellation Application for lots in Summit Estates at Fischer
After significant public outcry against the cancellation, Comal County Commissioners voted unanimously to deny cancellation of the lots that had been the subject of controversy for many weeks. Texas Water Company (TWC) would like to significantly expand its water treatment facility at the entrance to this subdivision -- to a capacity many times over what that subdivision can use -- and would likely have benefitted from the cancellation of the lots to facilitate that expansion. (See June 2 and June 3 updates.)
Fischer Neighbors teamed up with Summit Fischer's HOA to oppose the cancellation. We are extremely grateful for the Commissioners' vote with the community.

ALERT: Give a citizen's comment (3 minutes) at the June 4 Commissioners Court, 8:30am, 100 Main Plaza, New Braunfels — OR write to all commissioners well before the June 11 Public Hearing. And plan on attending the Public Hearing itself if you can at the June 11 Commissioners Court.

Comment to TCEQ — Canyon Ranch Wastewater Permit Renewal
Canyon Ranch (on FM 306 in Spring Branch) wastewater permit is up for renewal (Permit # WQ0015866001). While renewal is likely, it's important to get on the record opposing another 300,000 gal/day of treated effluent into Canyon Lake via Devil's Hollow.
